The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), on Tuesday in Sokoto released 15 detained trucks containing food items for onward sells at Nigerian markets.
The NCS spokesman for Sokoto/Zamfara area command, Mr Abubakar Chafe, said the exercise was in compliance with President Bola Tunubu’s directives.
Chafe said the Comptroller in charge of the command, Mr Kamal Muhammad, handed over the items to rightful owners based on presidential directives.
He urged traders to reciprocate President Tinubu’s magnanimity by ensuring that the grains are sold to Nigerian markets in order to lower the prices of food items being experience in the country.
He further cautioned marketers against smuggling as it jeopardize nation’s economy.
According to him, the command will collaborate with Intelligence Unit (CIU) along with Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) to monitor the sales of the grains in Nigeria markets.
He reiterated that NCS will ensure that country’s borders remain unsafe for smugglers which was being illegally crossed by unpatriotic traders.
The spokesperson said the items were received by the Grain Dealers Association Secretary, Alhaji Dahiru Ladan, on behalf of the union members.

intercepted 15 trucks containing food items along Gwadabawa-Illela road part of it’s efforts to prevent smugglings which had aggravated the rising cost of commodities.
