Edo State Government and the state’s chapter of the Association of Local Governments Of Nigeria (ALGON) are set for a show down as the 18 chairmen of the local government councils dismissed their suspension by State House of Assembly as nullity.
Addressing the journalists in Benin City today, the Edo ALGON boss and Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Council, Deacon Newman Ugiagbe, said their purported suspension yesterday was based on nothing in the eyes of the law.
His words: “It’s also a contempt against the order of court. From the forgoing, the 18 chairmen are going on with their constitutional responsibility as the chief executive officers of their Councils.
“We call on the security agencies, the Nigeria Police, DSS, NSCDC and other institutions of government saddled with the responsibility of enforcing law and order to protect all assets and buildings of our councils.
“I wish to also request the deployment of your men to all 18 local government Secretariats in defense of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is being impeded by the brazen act of Edo State House of Assembly, and to create an enabling environment for the smooth running of our functions of office to which we have sworn having been duly elected,” the ALGON boss stated
