Nigerian First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has distributed the sum of N50 million to 250 elderly citizens in Zamfara state under the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) second edition.
Flagging off the distribution of the funds in Gusau, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu said the programme was designed to support the welfare of old age persons annually.
Sen. Oluremi who was represented at the occasion by Zamfara State Governor’s Wife, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal said 250 citizens aged 65 years and above were carefully selected from the less privilege and veterans from the defence, police officers wives as beneficiaries.
She said the grant has been increased from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide more support to the elderly citizens during the festivity.
Sen. Oluremi commended the Governors Wives and Renewed Hope Initiative State Coordinators for their effort to make the programme successful.
While congratulating the beneficiaries, She urged them to prioritize their health even when they celebrate festivities, eat well and stay hydrated, do little exercise like walking and have adequate rest.
A beneficiary Mallam Garba Saidu expressed appreciation for the gesture, adding that, the grant would improved leaving condition of senior citizens across the country.
“We will make judicious use of the money by establishing small scale business that will enable us leave better life”. he added.
