Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has been conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree of Technology by the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), during its 36th Convocation ceremony on Saturday.
The event, graced by dignitaries including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma—also recipients of honorary degrees—celebrated academic excellence and public service.
Professor Zulum, a renowned academic and professor of Irrigation Engineering, expressed heartfelt gratitude to FUTO and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the university’s Visitor. He lauded the President’s establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) and pledged support from all 36 state governors to ensure its success.
Highlighting the shift in employment trends, Zulum urged FUTO to pioneer courses fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance. “As an academic, I encourage the introduction of job-creating courses to equip graduates for the demands of the modern economy,” he stated.
The governor also announced plans for a collaborative partnership between Borno and Imo States to bolster FUTO’s academic and research pursuits.
Zulum’s delegation included prominent figures such as Senators Mohammed Ndume and Mohammed Monguno, APC Deputy National Chairman (North) Hon. Ali Dalori, and Borno State House Speaker Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan.
Governor Zulum extended congratulations to the graduating students, inspiring them to embrace innovation and hard work in their future endeavors.
