Nigeria’s Army Chief Pledges to Re-strategize Approach to Combat Boko Haram Insurgency

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), visited the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri to inspect heavy-duty equipment and assess operational readiness. During the visit, he emphasized the need to re-appraise strategies and introduce new tactics, advanced equipment, and additional platforms to support troops in the field.

The COAS expressed confidence in achieving improved results and enhancing capabilities to combat security threats effectively.

General Oluyede’s visit included a stop at the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital (MSH), where wounded soldiers are recovering. He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to countering security threats by leveraging technology and upgrading troops’ equipment in the fight against terrorism. The COAS emphasized the importance of supporting troops on the ground and exploring ways to enhance capabilities further upon returning to Abuja.

Following the operational visit, the COAS stated that his objectives had been achieved and that efforts would be made to enhance the Nigerian Army’s capabilities.

He highlighted the importance of continued support for troops and the introduction of new tactics to achieve better results in combatting the Boko Haram insurgency.

Additionally, the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Shaibu, organized a dinner in honor of the Chief of Army Staff, recognizing his commitment to improving the Army’s operational readiness and effectiveness in countering security threats.
