In a decisive operation, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) under Sector 4 have intercepted 174 able-bodied Nigerian men attempting to cross into border communities in the Republic of Niger. The operation took place in Gueskeru, a critical border town linking Yobe State, Nigeria, with Niger.
The men, reportedly en route to the Lake Chad region for fishing, were flagged due to security concerns about the area’s history as a haven for terrorist groups, including the notorious Lakurawa faction. Preliminary investigations have raised suspicions of potential security risks posed by the movement of such a large group into terrorist-prone territories.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Sector 4 troops promptly halted their journey and initiated thorough profiling and interrogation to verify their motives and ensure regional security.
This interception highlights the MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to countering cross-border terrorism, safeguarding civilians, and maintaining stability in the Lake Chad Basin. The operation underscores the urgency of bolstering border surveillance and international collaboration among Troop Contributing Countries.
