Hon. Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, delivered a compelling opening statement yesterday as Chair of the UN-Habitat Executive Board during the Second Session of the 2024 Executive Board Meeting.
Addressing global leaders and stakeholders, Dangiwa commended UN Under-Secretary-General and UN-Habitat Executive Director, Ms. Anaclaudia Rossbach, on her leadership and initial strides in advancing the organization’s mandate. Highlighting Nigeria’s achievements as Chair of the Board, he outlined progress on balanced implementation of resolutions, the 2026-2029 strategic plan, and initiatives aimed at equitable human settlements worldwide.
To bolster these efforts, Dangiwa stressed the need for increased funding, calling on member states to prioritize contributions. Underscoring Nigeria’s commitment, he announced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of a $500,000 payment towards Nigeria’s outstanding contributions.
The Minister also emphasized partnerships with UN bodies, private sectors, and the Sustainable Cities and Communities Foundation (SCCF) as critical to achieving sustainable settlements. He expressed gratitude to Kenyan President William Ruto for hosting the session and reaffirmed his vision for a world with safe, decent, and future-ready living spaces.
