The group said the Deputy Senate President has demonstrated leadership by acting in the wider public interest and responding to concerns raised by the Northern Governors’ Forum, northern caucuses within the National Assembly, traditional leaders and youth groups.

The group however expressed disagreement with individuals that attempted to politicize the Senate debate on the bills.

“It is disturbing to observe how politicians and political interest groups used the imbroglio on the Tax Reform Bill to pass hasty judgement on some northern leaders that have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the region’s interest is protected”.

“We urge them to always look at national issues from the development point of view, rather than use them as tools for politicization.

“It is necessary to point out that Distinguished Senator Barau Jibrin held meetings round-the-clock with key figures at the Presidency, the National Assembly, some northern governors, opinion leaders and key Senate leaders to arrive at the current position which is in the collective interest”, Hamza Katsina said.

He called on Senator Barau Jibrin to continue to take firm stand on issues that have far-reaching impact on the unity, peace, well-being, prosperity, and overall development of the country.
