Retired Military Officers Storm Abuja: Demand Payment of Pensions, Entitlements

Abuja witnessed a dramatic protest on Wednesday as retired military officers took to the streets, demanding immediate payment of their pensions and other entitlements.

The ex-servicemen, many dressed in uniforms symbolizing their service to the nation, decried the government’s delay in fulfilling financial commitments owed to them.

Carrying placards with inscriptions like “Pay Us What We Earned” and “We Served Nigeria, Don’t Abandon Us,” the protesters marched through the capital, calling for President Tinibu’s intervention.

According to the protesters, the non-payment of their entitlements has plunged many of them and their families into financial hardship.

They urged the Federal Government to prioritize their welfare as a matter of national dignity.

Efforts to get a response from the Ministry of Defence were ongoing at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, the protest highlights growing discontent over the treatment of veterans, raising critical questions about the nation’s commitment to its heroes.
