The Katsina State Community Watch Corps CWC, Batsari Command, struck a major blow against banditry yesterday evening by parading Sanusi Bature, an elderly man accused of acting as an informant for bandits. Bature, hailing from Tsabawa village, is believed to have masterminded the abduction of over 50 civilians from the neighboring Shirgi community.

Shockwaves rippled through the community as details of Bature’s betrayal emerged. According to CWC officials, the suspect earned ₦250,000 for his role in the devastating attacks. Many expressed dismay at the betrayal of trust, especially from an elder expected to protect, not endanger, his people.

“It is heartbreaking to see someone of his age collaborating with criminals to bring harm to his community and others,” said a senior CWC officer.

The arrest of Bature is a significant step in Katsina’s fight against banditry, as security agencies continue their efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening peace in the region.
