In a significant step toward peace, nine former Boko Haram fighters turned in their weapons to authorities at the Agadez Governorate Court on November 11, 2024. Overseen by Brigadier General Ibra Boulama, the event marked another breakthrough in Niger’s efforts to end violence through diplomacy.
The surrendered cache, including two powerful 12.7mm machine guns, was received as part of a community-led mediation effort steered by Adoua Mohamed, a Nigerian national dedicated to fostering reconciliation.
The surrender adds to a series of recent demobilizations spurred by trusted local figures, including Elhadj Mahamat EZEMI and Ibrahim Moussa Ekadé, whose influence has inspired fighters to seek peace.
