In a significant move, Vice President Kashim Shettima has officially transferred custody of 119 minors detained during the August 2024 protests to the governors of Kaduna and Kano States.
The children, alongside several adults who faced prosecution, were arrested amid nationwide demonstrations.
VP Shettima emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring due process and compassionate rehabilitation for the minors, calling for renewed efforts to address the underlying issues that sparked the protests.
Kaduna and Kano’s governors pledged support and reintegration programs to guide these youths toward positive futures, urging communities to play active roles in promoting peace and dialogue.
