8 Division GOC Ignites 2024 Combat Challenge

In a bold stride towards enhancing combat readiness and professional excellence, Brig Gen IA Ajose, Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, and Commander Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI, declared the 2024 Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition open on August 19.

The event, held at the 26 Battalion Parade Ground, kicked off with a Map Reading exercise and is poised to be one of the most challenging editions yet, with rigorous events such as combat swimming, weapon handling, and obstacle crossing.

Brig Gen Ajose emphasized that this year’s competition is designed to be more intense and effective, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision to mold a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force.

He urged participants to bring their best to the table, stressing that the quality of training directly impacts performance in both peace and war times.

Hosting the competition, Brig Gen TM Opurum of 1 Brigade highlighted that the activities are meticulously planned to test and hone the leadership and combat skills of junior commanders, ensuring they are battle-ready amidst Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The GOC also lauded the Chief of Army Staff for his unwavering support, underlining the Division’s commitment to prioritizing training in all its operations for 2024.

With the competition now underway, all eyes are on the competing formations as they embark on a grueling series of tests designed to push their limits and prepare them for the nation’s defense.
