The 8 Division Nigerian Army, Sokoto, has commenced the 2025 Inter-Brigade competition for those on the rank of corporal and below to enhance sportsmanship and efficiency among soldiers.
Maj. Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), declared the competition opened in Sokoto.
Ajose, represented by Commander 78 Supplied and Transport Brigade, Brig. Gen. Moses Ikobah, said it was aimed at improving junior leadership organisational ability and initiatives in the stipulated rank bracket of non commissioned officers in the division.
Ajose said that the competition would also enhance physical fitness, battle readiness, firing skills, inter-unit relationship and esprit-de-corps among the troops.
He said that the competition was in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
”This philosophy is to consolidate the transformation of Nigeria Army towards bequeathing a well-motivated and combat- ready force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a joint multi-agency environment,” he said.
He also appreciated the COAS for his support, interest and commitment to ensure officers and soldiers are trained in a competitive manner.
The GOC said all necessary arrangements had been made for the comfort of participants.
He urged the umpire of the competition to be fair to all participants, so that at the end, the best would emerge.
In his remarks, the Commander 8 Div Garrison, Brig. Gen. AbdulMalik Jibia, said that the competition was between the four formations in the division.
Jibia said the competition would feature drill combat swimming, map reading, combat run and obstacle crossing among others.
He urged competitors and judges to abide by the stipulated regulations to ensure hitch free exercise.
The Newsmen reports that the opening ceremony featured oath taking, parades and other presentations.
