Troops of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai, backed by the Nigerian Air Force, have recorded a major battlefield victory, recovering 63 bodies of Boko Haram/ISWAP elements after a failed assault on Malam Fatori in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
Military sources disclosed that the insurgents launched the daring attack in the early hours of Wednesday, advancing on foot while deploying armed drones in a coordinated bid to overrun the strategic 68 Battalion position.
However, the troops, bolstered by swift air support, repelled the attack with overwhelming firepower, forcing the terrorists into disarray and inflicting heavy casualties.
The failed infiltration marks yet another setback for ISWAP elements operating in the Lake Chad fringes, as security forces continue to tighten the noose on insurgent activities in the North-East.
Sources added that clearance operations are ongoing to ensure the area remains secure and free from any residual threats.
