The Acting Governor of Katsina State, Malam Faruk Lawal, has declared a 24-hour curfew in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area and imposed a nightly curfew from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM in the remaining 33 Local Government Areas. This decision comes as a response to the recent breakdown of law and order observed in parts of the state during nationwide protests.
In addition to the curfew, Malam Faruk Lawal has also banned all unusual gatherings and any forms of protest across the state. The announcement was made following an emergency State Security Council meeting, convened to address the security challenges.
The Secretary to the Government of the State, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, conveyed that the curfew and bans were necessary to restore peace and order. The decision was influenced by reports of unrest and the need to prevent further escalation.
Earlier, the Acting Governor met with representatives of various Civil Society Organizations who were demonstrating peacefully at the Government House. He assured them that their concerns and messages would be communicated to the appropriate authorities.
