The 5th edition of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum has reaffirmed its commitment to regional stabilization, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
The forum, held in Maiduguri, Nigeria, from January 29 to 31, 2025, brought together governors from the most affected areas of Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria, alongside representatives of regional bodies, international partners, and financial institutions.
At the end of the three-day meeting, the governors in a communique issued: commended the progress made under the Regional Strategy for Stabilization, Recovery, and Resilience (RS SRR) and called for strengthened cooperation to address security challenges, support reintegration efforts, and enhance economic resilience in the Lake Chad Basin.
Lake Chad basin governors also emphasized the need for greater investment in transborder security, environmental protection, youth engagement, and cross-border trade, while urging continued support for stabilization programs in Niger.
The forum welcomed the establishment of the Special Multi-Partner Delivery Fund (SMDF) and the Nexus Funding Facility (NFF) to drive regional recovery efforts. It further announced that the next edition of the meeting will be held in Niger in 2026.
