In a significant military operation carried out in the Sambisa axis, a total of 330 women and children have been successfully rescued from the clutches of terror.
Among those rescued was Fatima Abdul, who bravely shared her harrowing ordeal with ABC News.
Fatima described the nightmarish conditions in Bula Marwa, where she and others were trapped amidst chaos and violence, including internal conflicts among Boko Haram militants who subjected women to brutal beatings and persecution.
Fatima’s account highlighted the desperate situation in Bula Marwa, marked by severe shortages of food and water, pushing her to flee for her safety, leaving behind her husband whose fate remains unknown.
Another survivor, Falmata, aged 38, recounted the moment of rescue, underscoring the dire circumstances in the forest of Bula Marwa within the Bama LGA axis, where even the militants themselves were fleeing due to the intense military pressure in the Sambisa forests.
The successful rescue operation not only showcased the bravery and dedication of the military forces but also brought a glimmer of hope to those who had endured unimaginable suffering. The narratives of Fatima, Falmata, and others stand as a testament to the resilience and courage displayed in the face of adversity.
Moreover, in a significant development, the military has handed over a Chibok girl, along with two children, and 330 other rescued individuals to the Borno state government for rehabilitation. The rescued group, consisting of 110 women and 220 children, was liberated during a clearance operation in the Bama-Pulka axis of the Sambisa Forest.
The Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Maj-Gen. Wahidi Shuaibu, disclosed that Ehi Abdul, a Chibok girl rescued on June 23, 2024, was married to two husbands, including one in Gwoza local council, and was three months pregnant upon her rescue.
Rescued individuals have been handed over for further profiling and rehabilitation at the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre in Maiduguri.The children will receive essential vaccinations against diseases, and efforts are underway to provide psychosocial support, education for children, and vocational training for women.
The military’s continued efforts to rescue captives and provide holistic support reflect a commitment to restoring hope and rebuilding lives affected by the atrocities of Boko Haram.
