Borno State Government

Tragedy struck Bui District of Arewa Local Government Area as no fewer than 33 persons lost their lives following a deadly armed cattle rustling attack that has thrown communities into mourning.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident and announced an immediate reinforcement of security presence across the affected axis in collaboration with the military and other security agencies.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi, said additional personnel and operational assets have been deployed, while sustained area domination patrols are ongoing to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed.

According to preliminary investigations, armed Lakurawa militants stormed the district last Wednesday with the intent to rustle cattle. The assailants are believed to have crossed into the area from Gudu Local Government Area before launching the attack.

Communities affected include Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago. Residents reportedly mobilised in response to the invasion, leading to a fatal confrontation that claimed 33 innocent lives.

Members of the public were urged to promptly report suspicious movements through established security channels to avoid further casualties.

Meanwhile, targeted operations are underway to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, prevent recurrence, and strengthen early warning mechanisms across vulnerable border communities.
