2027: Pressure Mounts as Daura Stakeholders Urge Speaker to Join Senate Race

Borno State Government

Momentum is building ahead of the 2027 general elections as key stakeholders in Daura Local Government have thrown their weight behind the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahaya Daura, urging him to contest for the Daura Senatorial seat.

At a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting held in Daura, political heavyweights, elders, youth groups, and party loyalists gathered to deliberate on the political future of the zone and chart a path forward.

The meeting, which drew APC leaders, councillors, aides, ward coordinators, and members of the Campaign Steering Committee, witnessed unanimous calls for the Speaker to heed what they described as a “popular demand” to represent the zone at the National Assembly.

Participants praised Daura’s leadership style, citing his track record of impactful governance, commitment to service, and ability to unify diverse interests. They argued that his performance at the state level has earned him widespread trust and positioned him as the ideal candidate to elevate Daura’s voice at the national stage.

“The call is not just from Daura but from across the zone,” one stakeholder noted, stressing that his representation would bring renewed vigour to legislative advocacy and development.

Responding, the Speaker expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and confidence reposed in him, assuring stakeholders that consultations are ongoing and would be expanded before a final decision is taken.

“I deeply appreciate your trust and counsel. I will continue to consult widely, and by the will of Allah, I will respond appropriately to this call,” he said.

Daura also struck a conciliatory tone, reaffirming his commitment to peaceful and issue-based politics. He emphasised that his political approach would not be driven by desperation but guided by maturity, calmness, and respect for democratic values.

“As we move forward, our politics will not be about ‘do-or-die’ but about peace, unity, and respect for one another,” he added.

The development signals early political realignments in Katsina State as aspirants begin to test the waters ahead of 2027, with Daura’s potential entry already generating buzz across the political landscape.
