The Katsina State Police Command has scored a major victory in the fight against banditry, rescuing 18 kidnapped victims and recovering rustled cattle in two separate operations on January 3, 2025.
Around 9:30 PM, heavily armed bandits ambushed four vehicles traveling on the Funtua-Gusau highway, targeting passengers for abduction. However, swift action by operatives from the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters thwarted the attack. In a fierce gunfight, police rescued all 18 victims unharmed, ensuring the safety of the passengers en route to their destinations.
Later that night, at 11:00 PM, another group of bandits attacked Gidan Gada village in Kafur LGA, rustling several cattle. Responding promptly, officers from Kafur and Malumfashi Divisional Headquarters tracked the attackers to Fanisau village, where they engaged in a gun duel. The operatives successfully recovered all stolen animals.
Tragically, the DPO of Kafur sustained a gunshot injury during the operation. He is currently receiving medical attention and responding well to treatment.
Commending the officers’ bravery, Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar Musa urged the public to provide timely information to aid security efforts. He reassured residents of Katsina State that the command remains committed to ensuring their safety.
The police have launched a full-scale manhunt for the fleeing perpetrators and vowed to bring them to justice.
