₦800,000 Bribe Rejected as Akwa Ibom Police Nab Notorious Robbery Suspect, Accomplice

Katsina state government

In a bold display of professionalism and integrity, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled an attempted cover-up of a robbery case after a senior police officer rejected a ₦800,000 bribe meant to secure the release of a notorious armed robbery suspect.

The officer, CSP Ebong Thompson, who heads the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, turned down the bribe offered on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, which was meant to derail the investigation and release the main suspect, David Samuel Isaac.

Isaac, 53, was apprehended after a Samsung phone—stolen at gunpoint—was successfully traced to him. Investigations revealed that Isaac is a repeat offender, previously arrested and charged to court for similar crimes last year, only to return to his criminal ways following his release.

The bribe was delivered by Emmanuel Mendie Peter, who attempted to use cash to influence the course of justice. He was immediately arrested at the SWAT office, where he brought the illicit money in a desperate bid to free Isaac.

He further warned members of the public to refrain from attempting to compromise police investigations, emphasizing that the Command remains unwavering in its mission to uphold justice and combat crime in the state.
